ESSENTIA
Essence is the principle and cause of its being.
Just as for the philosopher Aristotle, essence (in Greek “ousía”) is “that by which a thing is what it is, and not something else,” in the same way the ESSENTIA collection, designed by Marco Piva for Giovanni De Maio, embodies the fundamental nature of the material from which it is shaped, representing the very essence of the material and expressing its true identity through a design that enhances its purity and substance.
Ceramics and terracotta express themselves in their most authentic essence, through a collection defined by simple shapes and clean lines.
Each piece features a rigorous design, with minimal embellishments, designed to meet specific functions. The modular concept allows each element to be adapted to the specific needs of any space,
always ensuring a unique and distinctive result.
DOXA
It consists of four rectangular modules (two 30×10 cm and two 60×30 cm) that, when combined differently, allow for almost infinite compositional possibilities, exploring the contrast between the world of superficial perceptions
and the hidden, deeper essence of forms.
The minimalist and rationalist design reflects a pure aesthetic, where simple decoration represents the perceptible world, while the essential, functional, and perfect form emphasizes the search for a deeper truth, beyond appearances.
EIDOS
Composed of three rectangular modules measuring 30×10 cm, it plays with the perception of three-dimensionality achieved by juxtaposing static elements, which together create visual harmony, embodying an ideal concept
of symmetry and order, the reflection of an ideal idea or form that transcends matter. The aesthetic captures the essence of Plato’s Eidos, evoking the purity and perfection of the original idea through the medium of ceramic.
AUREA
It consists of 10 square modules, five measuring 30×30 cm and the others 15×15 cm, and represents the path of elevation from sensory perception (Doxa) to the understanding of pure ideas (Eidos).
The wavy and curvilinear patterns, with fluid lines that develop harmoniously across the tiles,
create a sense of movement and continuity that allows for infinite combinations, embodying the harmony of divine proportion and the progression towards knowledge.
